Rudy Giuliani’s two stooges have just been let out of jail [UPDATE: no they haven’t]
Update, 10:01pm – the SDNY is now telling MSNBC that the two men have not been released on bail. The news keeps getting worse for Rudy Giuliani as the day goes on, and now it’s taken a turn for the surreal. Federal investigators are leaking to the WSJ that they are already knee deep in Rudy’s financial records, which means that not only do they have him dead to rights, they’re going to arrest him fairly soon. But now Rudy’s two recently arrested henchmen are suddenly not in jail.
Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman have met their million dollar bail and have been released from jail accordingly, according to the WSJ. Rachel Maddow has added during her MSNBC show tonight that the two men have been outfitted with GPS tracking devices, and are expected to show up in court next week. Well this is odd.
To be clear, it was the federal judge who screwed up here by setting bail for these two stooges at all, after they were arrested while trying to flee the country. If these guys just tried to flee, they’ll at least want to do so again. The silver lining is that they can’t just saw off these tracking bracelets like in the movies. They’re not exactly going anywhere.
Still, it’s more than a bit weird that Parnas and Fruman are suddenly not in jail anymore, even as the SDNY is leaking that it’s coming close to putting Rudy Giuliani in jail. As we explained earlier this evening, the key upshot here is that the Feds already had Rudy nailed before they arrested these two goons, so Rudy will go down whether these two guys flip on him or not.
