President Biden comes out swinging in support of teachers

Many states are now vaccinating teachers, in recognition of the fact that making teachers safe is a necessary step in the responsible reopening of schools. But many other states are still excluding teachers for what appears to be nothing more than punitive reasons.

President Joe Biden took a big step toward rectifying this today when he announced that he’s instructed every state to begin vaccinating teachers immediately, and that all teachers and school employees must be vaccinated by the end of this month. Biden also stated that he’s going to set up programs at pharmacies to make sure they have vaccine access. This should ensure that Biden can work around any rogue Governors who don’t want teachers to have access to the COVID vaccine.

Biden also announced that he’s invoked the Defense Production Act to make Johnson & Johnson license its vaccine to competitor Merck, which will significantly increase supply of the vaccine.
