Matt Gaetz has long denied major media reports about him having sought a sex trafficking pardon from the Donald Trump regime. But now WaPo is reporting that Trump White House official Johnny McEntee has confirmed to the January 6th Committee that Gaetz did indeed seek such a pardon. Gaetz doesn’t seem to be taking it well.
The WaPo news didn’t break until noon, but Gaetz would have been called before publication and asked if he wanted to provide comment for the story. So he would have known the news was breaking at the time he tweeted a photo of himself with a bunch of deranged right wing supporters. One of the people in that photo is holding a flag which depicts a gun and the words “come and get it.”
Given that Matt Gaetz is widely expected to be indicted and arrested after the midterms, this is probably not the messaging he wants to be pushing right now. The judge will have to decide whether or not to let him out on bail while awaiting trial on such heinous charges, and prosecutors could use tweets like this to convince the judge to keep Gaetz incarcerated ahead of trial. In any case, this just keeps getting worse for Gaetz – and he’s not helping his situation.
