It increasingly looks like Merrick Garland is ahead of us, not lagging behind, when it comes to Trump

I think it’s time to retire the popular narrative that Merrick Garland has been dragging his heels. In reality he keeps proving he’s a step ahead of everyone. He took down the Oath Keepers leaders before anyone knew they were being targeted. He had a grand jury running against Trump world for months before anyone knew about it. And now, not only is his DOJ criminally investigating Trump for his theft of classified documents from the White House, it appears the DOJ is further along than Congress is when it comes to investigating the matter.

The glimpses we periodically get into Garland’s progress are always months old by the time they surface. It’s always outdated information by design, because smart criminal investigators don’t allow targets and suspects to know what’s coming. The pittance of information we receive about Garland’s efforts to take down Trump, and the severely outdated nature of most of that information, doesn’t mean Garland is lagging behind. It means we’re lagging behind Garland.

For that matter, we likely don’t know one tenth of what Garland and his DOJ have been doing behind the scenes. Just two weeks ago, most of you believed that the DOJ wasn’t even investigating Trump world for January 6th, and wasn’t investigating Trump for stealing classified documents. Now you know that the DOJ is pretty far down the road on both counts. What other DOJ investigations into Trump’s actions are you currently certain don’t exist? In how many of those instances will you end up proven wrong? Garland is ahead of us, not behind us. He’s just not interested in making this a spectator sport.
