Today Donald Trump made an announcement to the media concerning new immigration “laws” he will be putting into play. Trump said the new measures would deter those coming here under the guise of seeking asylum but who do not qualify. Under the current laws, Trump stated they were given a court date a year into the future, and then the person does not show up and has “disappeared” and can’t be found.

Trump says his new “law” based on executive order will no longer catch and release but will now catch and hold. It is unclear what legal path Trump intends to take to curb what he refers to as uncontrolled immigration.

There are multiple problems regarding America’s immigration issues, but Trump’s lying or exaggerating numbers like he did in his speech today will not help anything be solved. For example, Trump said only some 3 percent show up to their court date, when the true number is really in the high seventies. Therefore, it is difficult for anyone, either Republican or Democrat, to give Trump the benefit of the doubt when he gives us these comparisons and inflated numbers. Trump makes it difficult for anyone within reason to invest in him and his political future because he crosses the line from aggressive to amoral.

Donald Trump has also posted a video on his Twitter feed that shows an illegal immigrant bragging about killing police officers in America and shows how he says he wants to kill more police officers. Most of us know you can’t base your opinion on an issue on such a narrow slice of time, when there are so many other factors to take into consideration. However, Trump knows there are enough supporters who will buy into his schtick hook, line and sinker. The fact that so many domestic terrorists have emulated his stance and taken out their rage on innocent victims lately hasn’t deterred Trump one bit when it comes to Trump trying to fan the flames of prejudice to win the hearts of his voting base.
