The NRA’s Dana Loesch sinks to a Trumpian level of awfulness
There comes a time when one crosses a line of no return. Dana Loesch – darling of Fox News, Breitbart and other conservative media outlets – has crossed that line, and will now and forever be aligned with the worst that National Rifle Association has to offer. Loesch has been an outspoken cheerleader for the NRA, and she ramped-up the divisive rhetoric of the powerful gun lobby Thursday while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference by attacking the free press.
“Many in legacy media love mass shootings. You guys love it,” Loesch ascertained. “Now I’m not saying that you love the tragedy. But I am saying that you love the ratings. Crying white mothers are ratings gold to you and many in the legacy media in the back (of the room).
“And notice I said ‘crying white mothers’ because there are thousands of grieving black mothers in Chicago every weekend, and you don’t see town halls for them, do you?” she continued, ignoring that MSNBC and Chris Hayes did exactly that. “Where’s the CNN town hall for Chicago? Where’s the CNN town hall for sanctuary cities?”
She went on to hijack the battle cry of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student spokesperson Emma Gonzalez. “We’re here. We’re not going anywhere,” Loesch snarked to the CPAC audience in Maryland. “I call B.S.”
Gonzalez had said eight times: “We call B.S.” during a gun control rally speech in Parkland, FL. Loesch has made outrageous and offensive statements before on behalf of the NRA, but taking on the victims, mothers of victims and survivors has made her toxic to all except a narrow slice of society.
Loesch will complain about the left unfairly vilifying her to a sympathetic few, but it appears her brand of bitter blather is coming to an end.
