Donald Trump lies constantly in general. But there are two areas in which his lies are even more over the top: his legal troubles and his finances. Both those lies came together in one bizarre moment late on Thursday night, when Trump sent out a campaign fundraising text based on a total lie.

Trump’s fundraising message said “I STORMED OUT OF COURT YESTERDAY!” Well, no, he didn’t storm out of court. First of all, does Trump look like he could storm out of anything these days? Second, as a criminal defendant, if he stored out of the courtroom during his trial, the judge would have him arrested.

Trump has to be careful here. It’s not illegal for a political candidate to lie in general. But if you knowingly lie in campaign fundraising material, that’s a whole other ballgame. Trump’s campaign finances are already under deep scrutiny, as evidenced by what he’s currently on trial for. Trump may think he’s “getting away” with these things, but it’s all catching up to him.
