The deck is now fully loaded against Donald Trump

For a long time we were told by various social media doofuses that Donald Trump would never go on criminal trial because no jury could ever be seated against him. Even after it became clear that Trump’s first criminal trial was about to start, we were told by various doofuses on television that jury selection could take weeks or longer. But this kind of doomsday rhetoric never turns out to be accurate, and here we are in a very different situation.

It’s taken all of three days for the full jury to be seated in Trump’s first criminal trial. All twelve of them have now been seated. The deck is now fully loaded. If the alternates are all seated by tomorrow, then opening statements will likely begin on Monday.

Interestingly enough, neither side seems to have had any major objections to the jurors who ended up getting seated. Trump’s team struck a few people who were fans of liberal media outlets. Prosecutors struck someone who praised Trump in weird fashion. But ultimately twelve jurors were seated who aren’t invested enough in politics to have any partisan bias when it comes to this trial.

There’s a whole other conversation to be had about the number of people who still don’t care much about politics during this crucial and dangerous time in our nation’s history. But those people do exist in spades, which is why there was never going to be any difficulty seating a jury.

Moreover, these types are exactly who you want on this kind of jury, because in the end the only thing they’re going to consider is whether there’s proof of Trump’s guilt – and there is indeed overwhelming proof of his guilt. This means that they’ll very likely convict Trump on these thirty-four felonies.

It’s also worth pointing out that even in Manhattan, where most people with a political opinion hate Trump, it was still fairly easy to seat an unbiased jury in this Trump trial. All they had to do was find people who are too wrapped up in other things to follow or care much about politics.

So when Trump is convicted in New York, Washington DC, and Atlanta – three places he’s hated – he’ll try to argue that it was only because the jurors hated him. But all you have to do is look at the jury selection process that we just witnessed in order to pick apart Trump’s complaints.

There’s also some fear mongering out there that because one of Trump’s trials will take place in Florida, a state he won twice, the jury will be favorable to him. But if the jury in Trump-hating Manhattan ended up being this unbiased, then the jury that gets seated in Florida will likely end up being just as unbiased.

In any case, we’re on with the show. The jury is fully in place. The alternates will be seated next. And on Monday – or perhaps Tuesday at the latest – we’ll have opening arguments in Donald Trump’s criminal trial. Key witnesses for the prosecution could be on the stand by this time next week. And, as always, there’s nothing that Trump can do to stop any of it.
