Conservatives have effectively changed the courts to drive decisions in the direction they want with no thought of anyone else. SCOTUS ordered the Biden Administration to reinstall the Trump Migrant Protection Protocol, which has not been a successful program for immigrants, but for conservatives, it is ideal. If it keeps brown immigrants out of the country, they are happy. Next, SCOTUS will be going after abortion rights, which could have lasting ramifications.

According to Washington Post, the test case for abortion centers around a clinic in Mississippi called the “Pink House,” the last abortion clinic in the state. SCOTUS will be hearing arguments on Mississippi law that will ban all abortions after 15 weeks if confirmed and could go even further. A negative ruling in this case will give states more power to limit how and when abortions can be performed. This law also asks the Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, which, if granted, would essentially ban abortions. Mississippi, Idaho, Utah, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Louisiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia have all passed “trigger laws,” which would immediately ban abortions if Roe v. Wade were overturned. Look, abortion is a moral issue. If this is truly a free country, adults should be free to make their own decisions based on their consciences. Conservatives, however, do not want us to live in a free country. They want to pick and choose who does what if it adheres to their sense of “morals.” As we have seen, many conservatives are not the most moral people in the world, yet they want to dictate what you and I do without consideration for our morals and beliefs.

Conservatives pretend to care so much about the lives of children, yet they are constantly enacting laws contradictory to the health and wellbeing of children. Take the ban on mask mandates, for example. Pediatric units are currently overflowing with sick children because school districts are being prohibited from enacting mask mandates. Here in Georgia, parents with whom I am acquainted were advised that their young children had been exposed to Covid after two days of school without masks. One child has been tested, and the parents have been tested. All are negative; however, the second child is displaying possible Covid symptoms and must now be tested as well. Further, the foster care systems in this country are shameful. Children are being unnecessarily confined to psychiatric treatment facilities because there are no foster homes. These facilities are privately owned, and the conditions are deplorable. Once these children are released into a world of which they have no knowledge, where do they go? What do they do? Where are conservatives when these children need to try to put together a life from nothing?

Conservatives need to mind their own damned business. They need to leave women to their own decisions, morals, and beliefs. This country is not communist nor is it run by a dictator, and no one sitting on the bench or behind a desk has the right to tell others how to make decisions that directly impact their lives.
