Sarah Huckabee Sanders keeps getting worse at trying to sell Donald Trump’s lies

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was never particularly skilled at selling Donald Trump’s lies during press briefings. Right from the start, he would get too angry and defensive in the process of telling those lies, making him far less than effective. When Sarah Huckabee Sanders began doing press briefings instead, she turned out to be rather skilled at lying – but her own effectiveness has since crashed and burned.

Huckabee Sanders first appeared on the scene like a relief pitcher who was just getting warmed up, after Spicer had managed to wear down both himself and the briefing room crowd. Right out of the gate, she confidently repeated Donald Trump’s lies in relaxed and almost cheerful fashion. It was pure sociopathic behavior on her part, of course. But if you’re going to be Trump’s spokesperson, you’ve got to be in love with lying. Yet things have now gone terribly wrong for Huckabee Sanders.

Today’s briefing saw her wearily going through the motions of once again insisting the Trump-Russia scandal isn’t real, and once again referring to the media as “fake news” and so on. She came off as tired, detached, and defensive. In fact she came off just like Sean Spicer. By the time reporter Brian Karem decided he’d had enough and ripped into Huckabee Sanders for her bullshit (link), she had the look of someone who couldn’t believe that this is where her life choices had taken her.

It all suggests that no one, not even a gleefully dishonest sociopath like Sarah Huckabee Sanders, can survive the psychological toll of going out there each day and repeating the same old idiotic lies that Donald Trump wants told. Whereas Sean Spicer was just a terrible liar, Huckabee Sanders almost seems to think that this infantile level of lying is beneath her sophisticated lying skills. The job of lying on behalf of a braindead idiot like Trump is grinding her down, just as surely as it ground down Spicer. If you’re a regular reader, feel free to support Palmer Report
