Not so long ago Donald Trump was merely a reality TV show host, where his boorish behavior and incoherent decisions only affected contestants and those who tuned in. Now he’s inexplicably occupying the office of President of the United States, and many have accused him of acting like he’s still on The Apprentice. But based on his behavior today, it now appears that Trump – who is clearly suffering from diminishing mental capacity – honestly believes he’s back on his old TV show.

Trump headed into his cabinet meeting today and insisted multiple times to the cameras that it was going to take place in the “boardroom” even though there’s no room in the White House that has ever been known by that name. However, The Apprentice was centered around a final boardroom showdown. That led to instant jokes across social media that Trump might get confused and think he has to fire someone during the meeting. But by mid afternoon it turned out Trump did fire someone, Anthony Scaramucci, whom he had just hired eleven days ago.

There’s no evidence that Trump actually fired Scaramucci during today’s boardroom – er, cabinet – meeting. But at this point it wouldn’t shock anyone if he did. For that matter Trump kicked off his cabinet meeting today by announcing that it was the first one with John Kelly his new White House Chief of Staff, in attendance. But because Kelly has been the Homeland Security Director since January, he’s been in attendance at every Trump cabinet meeting. Either Trump doesn’t remember all the times he saw Kelly at previous cabinet meetings, or never noticed that Kelly was there.

And so now we have a former reality show host who appears to be under the hallucination that he’s back on the set of his old show, he’s firing people even more quickly than he fired them on that show, and he seems to have no awareness that his new Chief of Staff has been in his cabinet for the past six months. Trump’s rapidly decreasing mental capacity and cognitive awareness continue to play out at an alarming rate.
