Is Greg Abbott giving up?

Texas Governor and Republican Greg Abbott has been a staunch anti-masker. He issued an order banning Texas local and state governments, including schools, from requiring masking and social distancing to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The Trumpublican Governor staunchly maintained that Texans were bright enough to decide what steps they needed to take to protect their health and those of others around them. No one was going to tell freedom loving Texans what to do!

Apparently some stubborn or not-so-bright free Texans decided not to protect against the deadly virus, and now COVID-19 cases have skyrocketed in the Lone Star state. Texas hospitals are now filled to overflowing with COVID-19 patients.

It has gotten to the grim point that Abbott has now been compelled to make a desperate public plea for outside help to cope with the emergency influx of virus victims.

Some Texas pandemic patients are being shipped to hospitals as far away as North Dakota, ironically another red state full of anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers.

A Texas judge resorted to suing Governor Abbott to drop his mask-ban policy. Some large employers and school districts were starting to defy Abbott’s order in any event. So apparently some Texans have brains unclogged by Trump phobia.

Will Abbott now relent and drop his anti-masking ban? For that matter, will other Trumpublicans wake up and see the wisdom of wearing masks, social distancing, and getting vaccinated? No, that’s probably asking too much. They will continue their last ditch Alamo stand until there are no more standing. I guess that’s one way to solve the problem.
