Another disturbed man with a gun (identified as Larry Harris of AZ, 66) was arrested Monday morning in Lubbock County, Texas, after Harris successfully ambushed a caravan of three National Guardsmen vans carrying Covid vaccines, holding 11 guardsmen at gunpoint when police arrived.
Harris began following the caravan when it left Love’s in Lubbock, attempting multiple times to run the vans off the road, finally turning his vehicle around into oncoming traffic on the highway, which stopped them. He then pointed a gun at an unarmed guardsman, identified himself as a detective, demanded to search the vehicles, and ordered the rest of the unarmed guardsmen out of the vehicles at gunpoint. When police arrived Harris had a loaded Colt 1911 pistol, 45 caliber, an additional loaded magazine on his person and another one in his truck. He claimed he thought they had kidnapped a woman and a child. But for cooler heads, this could easily have been another disaster.
Harris was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful restraint of 11 National Guard Soldiers, unlawful carrying of a weapon, impersonating a Public Servant, and interference with Texas Military forces.
This is just a reminder that for every disaster we hear about caused by some nut with a gun, there are numerous other examples of how our men and women in blue, our military, or just some average-joe heroes have successfully thwarted some nut with guns that we never hear about. We also have a responsibility to help and/or report all friends and family nut-jobs with guns before they get out of hand, and of course we have to enact as many laws as it takes to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally disturbed.
