In a day that saw Donald Trump forced to shut down the Trump Foundation, and saw a judge asking in court if Michael Flynn committed “treason” while working for Trump, a late breaking development tonight may top it all. You know that super secret Robert Mueller appeals court case that no one could figure out, including us? The court just ruled in Mueller’s favor, meaning Trump is even more screwed than we thought.

The ruling itself is a bit of a head scratcher. The appeals court ruled tonight that an unnamed company must comply with a subpoena, ostensibly to turn over records. As the details have trickled in tonight, various and potentially conflicting reports have pegged the “company” in question as being a state-owned foreign company that does business in the United States. If so, is it a Russian bank? Perhaps a Saudi Arabian royal family enterprise? We’re not sure that part even matters.

Here’s what does matter. Robert Mueller decided that obtaining these records was the linchpin in taking Donald Trump down, as evidenced by the lengths he was willing to go in order to make it happen. On top of that, Trump and/or his allies were willing to go to the same lengths to try to prevent Mueller from making it happen.

Whatever this battle was specifically about, it was for all the marbles, Robert Mueller has won. This means he’s going to get whatever Trump records he was so adamant about getting. Trump has lost – and it’s such a big deal, it may end up being more impactful than the day’s other startling events.
