“This trial is starting” – Donald Trump’s worst nightmare just happened

Donald Trump did everything he could possibly think of to try to avoid going on criminal trial. He had his attorneys file every nonsense motion possible. He tried to tamper with witnesses and jurors. He ranted and raved and begged on social media for anyone, anything, to magically delay all of his trials. But as we said all along, while there was a chance Trump might get lucky in delaying one or two of his trials past the election, he was never going to be able to delay all four. And here we are.

By lunchtime Friday, the entire jury – including alternates – was fully seated in Donald Trump’s first criminal trial. So much for the notion that it would never happen. And by Friday afternoon, after Trump’s lawyers had raised one too many nonsense issues, Judge Merchan simply said this in response: “We’re going to have opening statements Monday morning. This trial is starting.”

Well that’s Donald Trump’s worst nightmare. This is a guy whose entire strategy to keep himself out of prison was based on keeping his trials from ever happening. And now that strategy has failed. He’ll very likely be convicted in this trial. And whether his conviction on these lower level class-E felonies puts him in prison or not, his other three trials involve much more serious felonies that’ll automatically land him in prison if he’s convicted.

So here Trump is, in a position that he tried desperately to avoid. That means by definition that he’s losing. Which in turn means we’re winning. If Trump had any of the powers that the media has ascribed to him, he wouldn’t be on criminal trial right now. Let’s keep that in mind as the trial gets fully underway on Monday.
