Remember the good old days when people lost elections, congratulated their opponents, and moved on? Yeah, we’re way past that. The election deniers are an embarrassment to this country and to themselves. Kari Lake sued Maricopa County (among others), claiming that election laws were broken, and that’s why she lost. No, girl, they just weren’t that into you. Pull up your big girl panties, congratulate Katie Hobbs, and move on. Newsweek reported that a group of Lake’s supporters showed up at the state capitol, claiming that “hundreds of patriot groups” came to “protest the uncertifiable results.” All 50 of them-people, not groups. They are even more ridiculous than Lake herself. No matter how much people say there have been no election fraud, irregularities, or anything else, these people believe what they want. You would think they would take the time to research issues, but that would make too much sense.

Republican legislatures that bought into this nonsense rewrote laws to make it harder to vote and some created “enforcement units” to investigate fraud in elections, both of which are a waste of time. Trying to limit the right to vote simply made citizens more determined to vote, and enforcement units have found nothing. In the Georgia runoff for senate, the long lines at virtually every polling place on the first day of early voting tell the story. College students came out in droves to vote before they had to return to their respective campuses while everyone else patiently waited in lines lasting up to 3 hours. Tell people what they can’t do, and they will prove you wrong every time. Did these people learn nothing from the 60s when people were willing to die for the right to vote? As if this isn’t bad enough, to think that states spent taxpayer money on these ridiculous law enforcement units makes it worse.

According to Associated Press (“AP”), Florida, Georgia, and Virginia all created these groups, and they found nothing following the midterm election to support their existence. As election experts predicted, the formation of these groups was political and not designed to eliminate abuses of the election system. That’s because there are none. All three states that created the groups are led by Republican governors, attorney generals, and legislatures. All Republican. That tells you a lot. Most people do not believe the nonsense about election fraud because they have the sense to know better. Speaking to AP, the senior vice president of the Campaign Legal Center opined: “I am not aware of any significant detection of fraud on Election day, but that’s not surprising.” It’s not surprising because (1) who would go to the trouble of impersonating someone else just to lodge and vote and (2) who would risk jail for doing so. According to Smith, there is a high probability that imposters will be caught.

Undertaking its own investigation, AP found no fraud in Georgia or any of the other battleground states that Trump lost, and they found no such thing in this year’s midterms. It’s time for everyone to get back to reality and put this nonsense to bed once and for all.
