These new criminal charges against Rep. George Santos are so much uglier than we imagined

The DOJ’s initial round of criminal charges against George Santos were devastating, but didn’t fully cover his lengthy pattern of financial fraud. For instance, what about all that money that he supposedly loaned his campaign?

Today Santos got hit with a superseding indictment, and the new charges go a long way to explaining how his financial house of cards worked. Santos was stealing credit card information from his donors and then running up fraudulent charges on those cards – a stunningly brazen level of fraud against his own supporters. And yet, given what we already know about Santos, it’s somehow not surprising.

George Santos is now just about a 100% lock for prison. These new charges are devastating and make for an open and shut case. That’s before getting to the part where his former campaign treasurer flipped on him last week and will testify against him. The only question is whether House Republicans will continue humiliating themselves by allowing Santos to remain in Congress until he’s hauled away to prison.
