The compass is tilting

In the Australian Guugu Yimithirr language, you can’t even say hello without saying exactly what direction you’re heading. There are no words for left or right. Instead, they use North, South, East, and West, even when referring to their own body parts. After trying to understand how it worked, a Radio Lab reporter told to her guide that all she could come up with was a compass floating in her mind telling her what direction she was heading. The guide replied, “How else would you do it?” Mystery solved.

Republican voters lack a moral compass and critical thinking. They are floundering on a sea of confusion, fear, and deception led by Donald Trump, a murderous pirate intent on pillaging every shore to fill his coffers, while endangering his crew and passengers. His First Mates face mutiny, first Kevin McCarthy, and now Speaker Mike Johnson is waiting to walk the plank. Yet, they continue to defend their captain. In a constant state of disarray, dodging the Fata Morgana of immigration, abortion, and conspiracy theories, their ship veers toward rocky shores.

While discussing House Speaker Mike Johnson on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday, Liz Cheney said, “He’s going to have to explain to future generations whether or not he is a force for good and aided a cause of freedom, or whether he continued down the path of cowardice and doing what Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin wanted him to do.” Cheney thereby lined up parallel to the approaching wake of lacking Republican leadership.
Americans are looking for direction, and Biden, along with his ship shape administration are showing us the way. While I believe the danger of Trump returning to power is utter bullshit, (Trump lost 2020 by over 7 million votes, and DNC fundraising currently dwarfs RNC fundraising), we still face dangers from the East (so to speak).

This President’s Day begins another week of reckoning. SCOTUS could decide on presidential immunity in Trump’s role in election interference and January 6th. SCOTUS will also hear oral arguments in Kinder Morgan v EPA, deciding the EPA’s ability to regulate air pollution. Meanwhile, Republicans continue fishing expeditions to disqualify Fani Willis and impeach President Biden, while endangering the world by refusing to approve crucial funding for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.
We all have a moral compass. It’s easy to read. Vote Blue.
