Running for the hills already

For about as long as conservatives have been around, they’ve had a tendency for naming things that are usually the opposite of what they claim to be. They’ve routinely talked about how they love the Constitution, as “constitutional conservatives,” even though they are largely unaware of most of the things in it, and only like to parrot a few phrases here and there, when they aren’t actually cheering on politicians that blatantly violate it – or they talk about “small government,” which pretty much means whatever they want it to mean. The Department of Government Efficiency, which is also a cryptocurrency, is just the latest direction in that trend.

Aside from the fact that Elon Musk wants to somehow create a government bureau to report on the government’s efficiency (something the Office of Management and Budget actually already does), the DOGE is already causing a number of embarrassing headlines.

First, it was Vivek Ramaswamy being fired because he can’t get along with Musk and now they’ve already managed to draw a number of lawsuits about their lack of transparency, which is pretty much the whole reason this agency should exist in the first place – which Musk is unwilling to do. It’s definitely not the type of publicity Donald Trump wants – and makes his people look exactly as inept as they should look.
