President Biden comes out swinging

One of the most overlooked actions the Biden administration has taken is its student loan forgiveness plan – one that was first enacted some time before the 2022 midterms at the urging of much of the progressive wing of the party, but has quietly continued through President Biden’s first term.

On Wednesday, the administration automatically forgave $1.2 billion worth of student loans, with direct emails sent to the borrowers informing them of the relief, just as Republicans are planning to cancel the program.

At the moment, 7.5 million borrowers are benefiting from the Biden administration’s SAVE program, with over half of the applicants having a $0 monthly minimum payment, just as Republicans are flaunting a bill in the House purported to reduce the cost of college but would actually just repeal all the progress made by the Biden-Harris administration on the issue so far.

Time and again, the Biden administration has proven itself to be the most supportive to borrowers and working people of all stripes, and the contrast has never been as clear as it is right now, with Republicans making clear everything we stand to lose if they win in November. Let’s do everything we can to make sure President Biden is re-elected on Nov 5, while retaking the House and keeping the Senate.
