Donald Trump has now fully failed in his futile attempt at delaying his first criminal trial. Now that he’s going on trial in just a few days, he’s doing what he always does when he’s powerless and helpless: he’s trying to make himself look strong.
Trump just sent this message out to his supporters: “ON MONDAY ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE!” Well okay then. This isn’t specific enough to count as incitement to violence under the law, but it’s clear what Trump is trying to do here. He wants everyone to think he can incite his supporters to violence, so that everyone will become paralyzed with fear about what might end up happening.
That’s why it’s more important than ever that we call out and condemn Trump for this kind of rhetoric, but not cower to him over it. In the end, Trump is powerless. He doesn’t control law enforcement at any level. Even if he manages to convince his supporters to try something, they’ll just end up in prison alongside him.
