Now we have to impeach Donald Trump again

As recently as yesterday, my position was that there was no point in trying to ram through a last second impeachment against Donald Trump. But that was in response to the fact that Trump had called Georgia and demanded that the election be rigged. We have a criminal justice system to take care of that kind of felony behavior.

But today is a very different story. After Mike Pence announced that he lacked the power to overthrow the election result, Trump posted a tweet accusing Pence of lacking the “courage” to do the right thing. Shortly thereafter, Trump’s armed thugs invaded the U.S. Capitol building in an attempt at violently overthrowing the certification process.

This behavior by Trump, and this result of his behavior, requires throwing everything that we have at him. The House should bring articles of impeachment tomorrow, even though there probably won’t be time for the articles to even so much as get out of committee. We should also place enormous pressure on Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment; at this point Pence will have to at least consider it if he wants any kind of future on the national stage.

The House and Senate are currently being held siege by armed pro-Trump terrorists, and Donald Trump is doing nothing to try to bring an end to it. It’s time for us to make a statement. It’s time to start impeachment, and it’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment.
