Nikki Haley goes to Hell

Not so long ago, Nikki Haley seemed to have a bright future in Republican Party politics. Then she tried to take a shortcut by resigning as Governor of South Carolina in order to become Donald Trump’s U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. It was clear at the time, to everyone but her, that she’d thrown her career away. Now she’s gone and done far worse than that to herself.

Now that Donald Trump’s plan to put immigrant kids in cages has backfired on him spectacularly, he’s making every defensive move he can think of. One of those desperate moves is to withdraw the United States from the UN Human Rights Council, before the council can makes moves against him. Of course this meant that Nikki Haley had to go out there today and sell Trump’s phony explanation for why he’s withdrawing. In so doing, Haley just ended herself.

Nikki Haley’s political career was already finished. No prominent face in the Donald Trump administration will ever have a place in national politics after Trump is ousted in disgrace; that’s the kind of stink that doesn’t come off. But Haley has done something worse today. Not only did she make the mistake of remaining in the Trump regime long enough to get tied to his uniquely evil treatment of immigrant kids, she’s specifically married herself to the debacle by being the one to take formal action to try to facilitate Trump’s child abuse.

It’s not as if Nikki Haley had any way to survive this politically. If she had resigned today in protest, she’d have ended up facing the wrath of Donald Trump’s deranged base. Instead, by committing herself to Trump’s abuse of children, she’ll face the wrath of the majority of Americans. When the Trump regime is over, maybe she can get a job at Fox News. Short of that, she’ll never work in politics again.
