Yesterday, Donald Trump made the laughable assertion that the President of the United States has absolute power over the states, a reminder that he’s never read or doesn’t understand the Tenth Amendment. Today Trump posted a bizarre and jarring tweet which accused certain governors of committing a “mutiny” against him:

.

.

We had to double check to make sure this tweet didn’t come from a Trump parody account. Sure enough, Donald Trump really did post this tweet. Unbelievably, he’s comparing himself to Captain Bligh, a leader whose behavior was so abusive and monstrous, his own crew took the Bounty away from him. Wait, that can’t be right.

It seems more likely that Donald Trump is referring to another classic movie, The Caine Mutiny. In that movie, Captain Queeg is more of a small time schemer, weirdo, mentally incompetent, and pathetic figure who’s ultimately relieved of duty out of necessity. Someone as narcissistic as Trump probably would view Queeg in sympathetic fashion. But if he truly sees himself as Captain Bligh, then he’s even further gone than we thought.
