This is Team Trump’s most deranged conspiracy theory yet

Yesterday, several politicians managed to gain access to one of Donald Trump’s deadly immigrant concentration camps. Some of them then emerged and immediately began tweeting about the utterly hellish conditions inside. This led to one of Team Trump’s most deranged conspiracy theories to date.

Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was one of the people who toured the concentration camp. This is what she tweeted about what she saw on the inside: “Now I’ve seen the inside of these facilities. It’s not just the kids. It’s everyone. People drinking out of toilets, officers laughing in front of members Congress. I brought it up to their superiors. They said ‘officers are under stress & act out sometimes.’ No accountability.” Others who were part of the tour also confirmed AOC’s claim about the toilet water and other horrors.

But because the far right has reached a point where it tries to frame every political issue in terms of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, they decided to focus almost entirely on her, instead of the issue at hand or anyone else involved. One far-right propaganda publication, whose name we won’t even dignify with a mention, tweeted this nonsense: “SCOOP: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., screamed at federal law enforcement agents ‘in a threatening manner’ during a visit to a U.S. Border Patrol facility in El Paso, Texas, Monday afternoon and refused to tour the facility, according to two people who witnessed it.”

What’s remarkable is that the far-right is now so clinically obsessed with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, they’re simultaneously painting her as a helpless bartender who needs help tying her own shoes, and a hulking super villain who is crushing border patrol agents with her bare hands. But when we say that this is Team Trump’s most deranged conspiracy theory yet, it’s not because they’re targeting AOC; she can take care of herself. What makes this so deranged is that they’re spinning this psychotic garbage about a freshman member of Congress as a way of trying to distract from the fact that their side is running concentration camps.
