More bad news for the RNC

The GOP is off to an awful start in 2024. Truth be told, they had a pretty terrible 2023 and not a great 2022, and 2021 wasnโ€™t really much to brag about. Although Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel leaves at the end of the month, sheโ€™s likely to be replaced by someone even more incompetent – and it may not matter all that much regardless of who fills her spot. The reason the GOP had a surprise victory in Virginia back in 2021 (where Glenn Youngkin just barely pulled off a win) has largely been attributed to the governorโ€™s rather wise decision to distance himself from Donald Trump. Generally, itโ€™s the only way Republican politicians have a hope of winning outside districts that arenโ€™t ruby red.

Unfortunately, thatโ€™s less likely to be the case these days, as Donald Trumpโ€™s daughter-in-law is seeking the position of co-chair of the RNC. Lara Trump has actually been pretty transparent about what will happen when she takes over: Her husband Eric and her brother-in-law Don Jr. will both have sizable roles in the RNC as a family business that will elevate MAGA candidates, and for all intents and purposes, likely serve the same function the Trump family charities have. The GOP is already deeply in debt and itโ€™s about to get even worse – if such were possible. This is why they canโ€™t be trusted with power anywhere and why we need to retake the House, keep the Senate and re-elect President Biden on Nov 5.
