Donald Trump, when he wasn’t busy dozing off in the courtroom, spent much of the day today whining about the judge’s refusal to commit to letting him attend his son Barron’s graduation next month. The judge said he’ll have to see how the trial schedule plays out, and because Trump doesn’t get that he’s a criminal defendant with a reduced set of rights, he’s throwing a fit about it. But here’s the thing.

New York Times bestselling author Jeff Pearlman has done the research, and he says that Donald Trump has already failed to attend the graduations of his four other children. In other words Trump never cared about his kids before, and he certainly doesn’t now.

In other words, just like everything else when it comes to Donald Trump, he’s misrepresenting the situation with Barron’s graduation. Are we really supposed to believe that after whiffing on nearly thirty years of graduations, he suddenly wants to attend one now?

Remember, this isn’t the political realm. Trump doesn’t get to just make up lies and then get away with it. The judge will be free to ask Trump to make an argument for why he needs to attend this graduation ceremony if he’s never considered them important until now. And Trump will need to come up with a valid answer, or else his motion will be denied. Trump isn’t calling the shots anymore.
