Lifeless Donald Trump has “blended into the furniture” during his criminal trial

During a break from his criminal trial this afternoon, Donald Trump (or whoever writes his social media posts on his behalf these days) angrily insisted that he’s not falling asleep during the trial, and that he’s instead just resting his “beautiful blue eyes.” Yes, he really said something this cognitively vacant.

But Trump’s protests can’t hide what’s playing out in court. Shortly after Trump insisted that he’s fully present during his trial, Tyler McBrien of Lawfare wrote that Trump is so devoid of any reaction to what’s going on, he’s “almost blended into the furniture.”

It’s the latest reminder of just how much Donald Trump is shrinking before our eyes. He’s often asleep, and even when he’s awake, he’s barely there. As the stress of this trial grows, and as his worsening dementia symptoms continue to get worse, Trump is going to fall apart completely.
