If you’re looking to take the temperature of the failing Donald Trump regime, just take a look at the reactions of his top remaining advisers. Sarah Huckabee Sanders performed miserably on Fox News this weekend, to the point that host Chris Wallace called her out for her lies. Now, with almost no one left, Kellyanne Conway has stepped to the plate – and she’s promptly humiliated herself.

CNN correspondent Jim Acosta, who takes an aggressive no-nonsense approach to his job, encountered Kellyanne Conway outside the White House today and asked her this question while the cameras rolled: “Can you promise that the president will tell the truth tonight? Will he tell the truth?” She fired back with some version of I know you are but what am I?, prompting Acosta to declare that “I’m not the one with the alternative-facts problem like you.” Then things got particularly ugly.

Kellyanne Conway snapped and angrily responded to Acosta, “You’re such a smartass most of the time and I know you want this to go viral.” Thanks to Conway’s profane and unhinged response, the video clip did indeed go viral, and has been all over social media today. Oops.

This was not the kind of distraction that Donald Trump wanted this evening, even as he was preparing to put all his chips down on a losing hand with his border wall speech. It also undermines Trump’s recent declaration that people in high government positions shouldn’t be using foul language. But the real upshot is that Trump’s own people are cracking under the pressure as his presidency nears its end.
