Never let it be said that Republicans don’t know how to make themselves into laughingstocks. This is a talent they excel at and something they do with ease. Now, unfortunately for Republicans, their whole World War Three train-wreck comes at the same time Saturday Night Live returns for a new season. Uh-oh.

And this weekend, SNL did return – just in time to launch a new cold open — all about Republicans. Gym Jordan and Donald Trump bore the brunt of the mocking with a visit from Trump to Gym Jordan’s office digs.

“Is this the loser’s office?” Trump asks sweetly, undoubtedly promoting millions to shout back “YES!!”

“I prefer the Jordan’s who win, okay?”

“Like the great Michael Jordan.”

“You’re not me. You’re no fun; I’m hilarious.”

“You’re little Gym Jordan, I’m Donald Trump.”

“I’m coke — you’re Shasta.”

Congratulations, SNL — you did hit it out of the park this time. But Gym was also mocked relentlessly. “How did I lose? All I want to do is get Congress back to work so I can shut it down again.”

George Santos made an appearance, taking a phone call from Tupac Shakur and holding a familiar-looking baby nestled in his arms, where he admits few seem to know where said baby came from.

Lauren Boebert phones in while she is groped by an offscreen (date?). It was an excellent cold open — one of the best in recent memory. But it underscores an important point — a very important one.

The GOP has now firmly become the joke of the nation. One knows it’s terrible when Saturday Night Live gets in on the action.

All over the country, Republicans are being mocked, laughed at, and ridiculed. This is because they’re an incompetent bunch of screw-ups who seem to make as their life’s ambitions and goals, the chance to screw up MORE on any given day.

This SNL sketch proved a brief respite from GOP craziness by poking fun and letting us take a breath to just laugh at how insane things have become for the GOP. Will the insanity end this week? Don’t hold your breath.
