Jim Jordan just gave away the farm

Jim Jordan has now lost the second round of voting for Speaker of the House by an even bigger margin than the first round. So now Jordan is doing what desperate people do when they’re facing defeat but they don’t want to give up: he’s in the bargaining stage.

Jordan is now telling House Republicans from moderate suburban districts that he’s willing to partially undo the middle class tax increases that Donald Trump imposed while he was in office (yes that’s right, Trump raised taxes on the middle class, even though no one in the media ever talks about it).

This a remarkable development. Jim Jordan is now offering to give away a key piece of the Trump-era plot to steal money from the middle class and give it to the rich – a plan that Jordan helped engineer.

At this point Jordan is giving away the farm in the hope of wrangling up enough votes to become Speaker tomorrow. This move just might get him a few votes from those suburban New York districts. But this alone won’t come close to giving Jordan enough votes to become Speaker. So unless he has a whole lot of these kinds of tricks up his sleeve, he’s not getting the votes in tomorrow’s third round either.
