Jim Jordan now wants a third round of voting on his candidacy for Speaker of the House – he just doesn’t want it until tomorrow. He’s trying to buy himself time to find a way to wrangle together the votes. But the House Republicans who stand against Jordan are now moving to try to finish him off.

Anti-Jordan House Republicans just formally requested that the third round of voting be held right now, immediately, today. This request goes to the interim Speaker of the House, Patrick McHenry, who nominally makes such decisions. But realistically, McHenry is going to do whatever House Republican leaders like Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise tell him to do.

Given that the business day is nearly over, it doesn’t look like the anti-Jordan faction is going to get its wish as far as having another vote today. But given how eager they are for the next round of voting to happen as soon as possible, they appear to be quite certain that Jordan is going to lose. Jordan is trying to pull some strings before tomorrow, but it turns out some House Republicans have indeed been plotting against him from the start in order to make sure his vote totals keep dropping.
