Is this the start of a Republican mass exodus from Congress?

“I quit!” “I’m thinking about quitting.” “I should quit.” Friends and readers, many in the Republican party appear to be mulling over a chance to start their lives afresh — only not in Congress.

For example, Debbie Lesko has declared she will not run when her term is up. Other Republicans have hinted at quitting. Indiana Rep. Victoria Spartz has also threatened to quit, saying, “There is a limit to human capacity.” Then she, too, threatened to resign.

So, will it happen? Will Republicans start quitting en masse? I’m not sure about THAT. But I can understand the frustration and the apparently VERY strong urge to get away from the house of pain that is the republican party.

But it isn’t just politicians who may quit. Reportedly, there could also be a “mass exodus” of Republican Congressional staff. NBC’s Ali Vitali remarked that there is real fear over this: “For people who come here to work on policy and make change, this isn’t what they signed up for.”

I imagine none of this puts a smile on Republican faces. They’ve got to worry about other members of Congress quitting, but besides that, now there are rumors that STAFF members may walk out. Yes, a mass exodus could soon be on the horizon.

There is a solution to all this, which, if Republicans would stop bullying each other, they might see. The GOP needs to put away their social media theatrics, stop the gossip and backstabbing, pick a speaker, and get the house open again. This however is easier said than done.

The reason it’s easier said than done is that Republicans seem to have a much higher comfort level with embarrassing each other and running amok on social media with insults, blocking, and disrespect than they do acting like mature adults. Of course, acting like adults involves a unique skill set of acting, mainly because this group has seemed never to have worked with maturity in their lives.

So, will chaos keep breaking out on the House floor? I hope not. I also hope none of these bozos throw a punch at each other, a scenario that has refused to leave my head and is one of the few ways Republicans stand to humiliate themselves even more than they already have. So get back to work, republicans! You have got staff to take care of and constituents to consider. Go back to DC and at least pretend to know what the hell you are doing.
