Here’s all the proof you need that the polls are broken

One of the biggest rivalries of the 2024 senate primaries was the race for the Democratic nomination between county executive Angela Alsobrooks and Rep. David Trone, who was wealthy enough to put up $60 million of his own money. For virtually the entire race, Trone was enjoying a sizable advantage in polling. In fact, 99% of polls showed him ahead and poised to win handily.

Oh, and they also showed him beating the state’s former Republican governor, Larry Hogan – which was one of the points he ran on throughout the campaign. While we at Palmer Report often encourage readers to look at the averages and not the individual polls themselves, the average here showed a two-point lead for Trone.

What happened on Tuesday night? Rep. David Trone, who didn’t have the most gregarious personality and prone to idiotic gaffes, isn’t going to be Maryland’s next US Senator. He didn’t just lose to Alsobrooks, he lost in a landslide – nearly a 12-point loss, that the polls didn’t even remotely pick up on. She’s carrying all the metro counties and even doing fairly well in the rural parts of the state – meaning she’s on track to handily beat Larry Hogan in November.

It’s clearer than ever that the polls are flawed in their methods, but more importantly, organizing effectively, as Alsobrooks’ supporters did in Maryland, is the surest way to win. Let’s do that to keep the Senate blue, flip the House and re-elect President Biden on Nov 5!
