Five weeks away
We’ve officially entered 2024. It’s an election year. But November is still a ways away. So we’ve got, what, ten months? Nope. Try five weeks. That’s when the first key competitive election of 2024 takes place – and I’m concerned that it’s not getting nearly enough attention.
We are now just five weeks away from the special election to replace George Santos in New York’s 3rd District. There’s been a presumption across social media that the Democrats have this race in the bag due to Santos’ scandals. But the numbers say this is likely to be a close competitive race. NY-03 is a moderate district that has a history of going either way (Santos just won there in 2022), and Cook Political Report has the special election rated as a toss-up.
I’m telling you right now that if we don’t get involved and make an effort to win this special election, we could end up losing. In the process we’d lose the opportunity to flip a House seat, at a time when the Republican majority is shrinking into oblivion. If we lose the special election, the media will also use it as an excuse to shove a “Democrats in disarray” narrative down our throats all year.
So let’s get involved and win this one. The good news is that because the special election is getting so little national media attention, we can make a big difference just by making any effort at all.
