Enough is enough. Not only is it coming out that Trump refers to our dead soldiers as losers, he tried pulling the funding and instructed the Pentagon to shut down The Stars and Stripes, the military’s newspaper that goes back to the Civil War (he then ended up caving).
Republicans have long used the hallowed symbols of our monuments, our flag and our military as a self-promotion tool. As disgusting as that is right now, there was always the forlorn hope that a few of them actually meant it. Their silence now is making clear they don’t give a damn about anything this country stands for, only their own puerile money-making schemes. Any conservative, Christian or Republican who does not denounce Trump after this is nothing more than a traitor.
Unity is crucial at this time. Republicans have in the past espoused traditional values of service and sacrifice, but now that it’s time to live up to them, they can’t do it. They can’t even give lip service to it. If they don’t denounce Trump and throw their vote to Biden, the entire party is unsalvageable. Not only do we need to vote them out, but each and every one of them needs to be told by their constituency that they’re traitors.
What it means to live in a country of free speech is to be able to voice your opinion without the government taking action against you. It does not mean you are free of consequences. Republicans are free to voice their silent approval of Trump’s “losers” and “suckers” comments about our dead military. But every person of conscience needs to vote these monsters out and end the party for good. If these Trump cult followers want to burn down their party by sticking to him, the government has no right to intervene. But we, the American People, have the right to vote this party out and shun them for the garbage they are. Forever.
