Donald Trump was listed as a witness for the defense in his New York civil fraud trial. But after his own people leaked to the media that they were worried about what he might say on the stand, he ended up announcing that he wouldn’t testify after all. The obvious implication was that his people know he’s too senile to coherently take the stand, and fed him some nonsense reason for why he couldn’t testify. Now Trump seems to be confirming this series of events.

Trump is now insisting that he wanted to testify in his own defense in his fraud trial, but he couldn’t do it because of the gag order. This is hilariously absurd, given that the narrow gag order pretty much only prohibited him from talking about the clerk of court and other court officers.

Trump is claiming, in effect, that he wouldn’t have been able to defend his financial moves without mentioning the clerk of court. This is beyond laughable. But it gives away how things are playing out with Trump behind the scenes these days. His attorneys were afraid of him taking the stand due to his senility, so they told him the gag order prevented him from testifying, and he’s so senile that he accepted their explanation.

Keep in mind that Trump’s failure to testify in his own defense doesn’t help him in a civil trial. It hurts him. He’s basically forfeiting by not testifying. This means that his handlers thought that whatever he might have said on the stand could have been even worse for him than not testifying at all. In other words, he’s just that far gone.
