With less than three months until the most important election in America’s history, the mainstream media is dropping stories so fast it is difficult for the analysis of each to be given the proper amount of coverage. While it feels like it was several months ago, the Treason Summit between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin occurred just five short weeks ago. It was former CIA director John Brennan’s response to the summit that made him a target of Trump’s attacks and vitriol.

On stage next to Putin, Trump voiced his opinion that Russia did not attack America’s 2016 election, despite a unanimous agreement to the contrary by United States intelligence agencies. Brennan could not hold back his true feelings and tweeted that day, “Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of “high crimes & misdemeanors.” It was nothing short of treasonous. Not only were Trump’s comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin. Republican Patriots: Where are you???” In a subsequent interview, Brennan would go on to say Trump’s actions were treasonous.

While this ultimately led to Trump revoking Brennan’s security clearance, Brennan has not backed off, but instead doubled down. On Sunday’s episode of NBC’s Meet the Press host Chuck Todd asked him if he regretted his accusations against Trump. Brennan responded, “I called his behavior treasonous, which is to betray one’s trust and to aid and abet the enemy. And I stand very much by that claim.”

As most suspected, Brennan’s claims are backed by facts. Because the meeting between Trump and Putin was private, only accompanied by translators, nobody knows for sure what was discussed. While the Trump administration has refused to divulge what agreements were made, the Kremlin has been open about its satisfaction with whatever Trump promised. Russian officials have stated how “pleased” they were with the outcome of the meeting.

While we still don’t know exactly what Donald Trump promised his boss Vladimir Putin, it is being reported that Trump will refuse to follow recommendations made by Congress to prevent his administration from recognizing Crimea as part of Russia. As Palmer Report documented, a bipartisan group of Senators attempted to reaffirm the fact that Russia is still an adversary to America. However, there appears to be a growing faction within the GOP Senate which, for whatever reason, appears to put Russian interests before America. With the midterm elections fast approaching, it is important that Democrats win back control in order to put necessary checks and balances on those putting Russia before American democracy.
