Donald Trump just got eaten alive

Hi, it's Bill Palmer. I'm as sick of Donald Trump as you are. I'm expanding Palmer Report's operations so we can lead the fight against him. Click here to donate $25 or $50.

The anti-Trump movement has an assortment of both moderate and left-leaning individuals and even a few conservatives who share a common goal of showing Donald Trump the door in the name of democracy and common decency, even if their ideologies clash on a number of other things. When Trump first ran for president in 2016, nearly every newspaper or media publication that followed politics endorsed his opponent for president instead – even the ones that notoriously leaned Republican and hadnโ€™t endorsed a Democrat in decades.

Weโ€™re likely to see the same trend with a number of newspapers and magazines endorsing Joe Biden over Trump this year, with a few notoriously conservative pundits coming out swinging against Trumpโ€™s incompetence already. Itโ€™s normally expected for newspaper editorial boards to make an endorsement, but one unlikely publication is sharply denouncing Trumpโ€™s candidacy for 2020.

Itโ€™s one thing for a news or political publication to have their preferences when it comes to a political candidate, but itโ€™s a little bit different when a medical journal, let alone one of the most prestigious medical research journals in the world, comes out against a presidential candidate. In The Lancetโ€™s opening editorial this week, they make it clear how hazardous a Trump administration is to public health at large: โ€œAmericans must put a president in the White House come January, 2021, who will understand that public health should not be guided by partisan politics.โ€

The article is a scathing indictment of the administrationโ€™s abysmal failure to tackle the problem and attacks Trump for his reliance on โ€œmagic bulletโ€ solutions – that hopefully a cure or vaccine will come soon and itโ€™ll no longer be his problem, rather than do anything to competently mitigate the risk of catching COVID-19 or slow down its spread. While the article makes no mention of Joe Biden, this is perhaps one of the strongest endorsements heโ€™s gotten this far – and a stark reminder that itโ€™s no longer a partisan statement to say that Donald Trumpโ€™s presidency is a serious threat to national security.
