The Saudi Arabian government’s murder of Washington Post writer Jamal Khashoggi isn’t going away any time soon, and in fact the scandal is worsening by the day. The Saudi Crown Prince very much appears to have been responsible for it, and the Saudi King is now trying to find ways to accept responsibility without it landing on his son’s head, even as investors from all over the world continue backing away. Then there’s Donald Trump.

The problem for Donald Trump, of course, is that he and his son-in-law Jared Kushner are all but owned by the Saudi Arabian government. This has left Trump hemming and hawing, and trying to blame the murder on “Rogue Killers” who randomly wandered into the Saudi embassy. Even as the Saudi government is reportedly trying to come up with an explanation which would put the blame on Saudi government agents who were acting without authority, Trump is still frantically sticking with a different line of defense.

This evening Trump told the Associated Press that the real victim here is Saudi Arabia, which is being treated as “guilty until proven innocent.” No really, he said this, even as Saudi Arabia itself is moving toward confessing. This is the same kind of defense that Trump rolled out for alleged child molester Roy Moore, alleged serial sexual assaulter Brett Kavanaugh, and everyone else on Team Trump who’s turned out to be a lowlife. So long as criminals are benefiting Trump in some way, he automatically sides with them.
