A few minutes ago, Joe Biden pulled ahead of Donald Trump in Pennsylvania by 6,000 votes. Based on the math, there’s essentially a 100% chance Biden will remain in the lead in Pennsylvania. He’s going to win the state, and he’ll win it fairly handily. This will give him 273 electoral votes, making him the winner of the presidency.

In fact the respected analysis site Decision Desk has now called the election for Joe Biden. Decision Desk is not one of the outlets that Twitter and others have classified as an “official” call. But those news outlets – NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, the Associated Press – are now likely to call the race at any minute.

It’s not yet clear precisely what criteria the networks are going to use for when to make their call. Perhaps they’re waiting for Joe Biden to get ahead by more than .5%, which is the threshold for a runoff in the state. Or maybe the media is just studying the demographic nature of the last batch of votes that came in, to make sure they match up with what was expected.

Regardless of what’s going on behind the scenes at these news outlets right now, it’s a matter of time – and likely a short matter of time – before they call the race. Any minute now, they’re going to name Joe Biden the winner of the presidency.
