Donald Trump tries desperate hail mary in the face of Mike Pence testimony

Last week Mike Pence announced that he would not appeal the lower court ruling that he must testify to the DOJ grand jury against Donald Trump. Today Trump tried filing an appeal, all on his own, aimed at stopping Pence’s testimony.

I’ve only got two words for Trump: good luck. The courts have been processing appeals in the DOJ’s Trump case rather quickly of late, due to the importance of the case. Even if Trump and Pence were appealing this together, it wouldn’t get very far or last very long. By filing on his own without Pence’s participation, Trump is filing an even weaker appeal that’ll get shot down even more quickly.

This is nothing short of a last ditch desperation move that’ll buy Trump very little time. Pence will end up testifying soon one way or the other.

Let’s also keep in mind that while Mike Pence’s testimony is needed for the DOJ to indict Trump in the January 6th / election overthrow case, Pence’s testimony is not a part of the DOJ’s separate classified documents case. So if Jack Smith decides to, he can indict Trump for the classified documents even while he’s waiting for Pence’s testimony to come in for the other case.
