Criminal case advances against Rudy Giuliani

Here’s the thing about federal criminal investigations. They tend to consist of just a few isolated days of major moves being made in public view, and a whole lot of routine grunt work behind the scenes in between those big days.

That’s now becoming clear when it comes to the federal criminal investigation into Rudy Giuliani. The Feds raided his home about three weeks ago, but the media storyline has since gone quiet. So did they not find anything? Did they give up? Is it all over? Hardly.

A new court filing reveals that the Feds seized eighteen electronic devices from Rudy Giuliani’s home. So it’s clear that they’ve been spending the past few weeks sorting through every document and communication on those devices, pulling out the relevant pieces, and following up on those communications in the real world.

In other words, the Giuliani probe hasn’t slowed down or stalled out. It’s merely shifted back into a grunt work phase, which doesn’t include grand gestures or major headlines, but does advance the probe to the next major juncture. Giuliani still appears to be firmly on track for indictment and arrest. Don’t ask us when; that’s a question for prosecutors. But things are clearly getting there.
