President Joe Biden is an amicable guy who likes working with people who are acting in good faith, whether they agree with him on everything or not. But he never hesitates to directly call out those who are operating in bad faith.

We saw a clear reminder of that today when Biden addressed the fact that the Republican Governors of Texas and Mississippi are inexplicably ending their mask mandates while the pandemic is still out of control and the vaccination process is still underway.

Biden referred to those decisions as “Neanderthal thinking” during his press availability today, as captured by NBC News:

Biden only has control over federal properties and interstate travel when it comes to mask mandates, so he doesn’t have a mechanism for overriding these rogue Republican Governors. But by calling them out so directly today, Biden has given reasonable people in those states a convincing reason to continue wearing masks in defiance of their Governors. After all, who wants to be a Neanderthal?
