Bernie Sanders is about to stick it to Mitch McConnell

I was often critical of Bernie Sanders during the 2020 Democratic primary race, mainly due to the divisive agenda of the people who were running his campaign. But Bernie dumped all of them, got behind Joe Biden when it counted, and helped defeat Donald Trump. Now Bernie appears to be back to doing what he does best.

Bernie Sanders is apparently going to filibuster against the U.S. military budget in the Senate, until Mitch McConnell allows a Senate vote on the $2,000 relief check amendment that the House just passed. This could work out really well for the Democrats, and for Americans.

To be clear, the military budget is going to end up passing before it needs to pass, so the filibuster doesn’t put military funding in any danger. But this puts a huge spotlight on McConnell’s unwillingness to let Americans have their $2,000 relief checks. If McConnell caves to Bernie, we get our checks. And if McConnell stands his ground, he risks losing the Georgia Senate runoffs over it.

It’s still not clear what McConnell will do, as he’s become harder to read since Trump lost. But a high profile filibuster in relation to the $2,000 stimulus checks is the last thing he wants right now. So even if you’re not a Bernie fan, you should root for his filibuster. And if you are a Bernie fan, keep in mind that if the Democrats take control of the Senate, Bernie will become Chairman of a powerful Senate committee.

If you have anything left to give, Ossoff and Warnock need your donations now more than ever. Let’s put them over the finish line and put McConnell out of his misery. You can donate to Ossoff and Warnock via ActBlue.
