You know you’re having a bad day in American politics when you’re arguably having an even worse day than national punching bag Donald Trump. Yet that’s precisely the situation that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is finding himself in today, thanks to one ugly blow after another.

It all started when Walmart signaled that we’re officially in the gun control era when it announced several reforms aimed at distancing itself from the gun retail business. That ramped up pressure on Mitch McConnell, who is increasingly (and accurately) seen as the primary reason gun control legislation isn’t getting passed. McConnell is an NRA puppet, and everyone knows it, and the NRA is increasingly being seen as a domestic terrorist group.

Then the news got worse for Mitch McConnell when Democratic Senator Joe Manchin announced that he’s going to remain in the Senate instead of running for Governor of West Virginia, which significantly boost the odds of the Democrats taking the Senate away from McConnell in 2020.

But the real blow came for Mitch McConnell when he once again publicly complained about the fact that everyone has begun calling him “Moscow Mitch.” He could simply stop doing the Kremlin’s bidding, but that’s not how corrupt criminals like McConnell operate, and so the #MoscowMitch hashtag began trending on Twitter once again as everyone piled on. Mitch McConnell is having a no good, very bad day.
