When Donald Trump skipped his traditional early-morning Twitter meltdown on Saturday morning, we were left to wonder what it might mean. Yes, it was a weekend. And yes, he was at one of his golf resorts. But even on his golf days, Trump always gets around to staging a meltdown before the day is over. This, however, was a different kind of day altogether.

In the afternoon, Donald Trump posted a lengthy video of himself reading a prepared statement about ICE which he clearly didn’t write himself. Trump sounded so lethargic, he came off as if he were drugged and reading a random notice. Aside from that video, and a generic post from one of his staffers about an upcoming rally, Trump hasn’t tweeted anything in twenty-eight hours. These quiet stretches are very rare for Trump, even on golf weekends, and they tend to give something away.

Trump only tends to go this quiet for this long when one of his scandals has just erupted, and he expects it to imminently get far worse. Under the circumstances, this suggests that Trump is more spooked about the Michael Cohen leaks than he’s letting on, and that he expects those leaks to quickly escalate. This correlates with Rudy Giuliani’s Twitter rant on Saturday evening about Cohen releasing more tapes of Trump.

Interpreting silence is always tricky, even when it comes to the ever-predictable Donald Trump. But based on how rarely he goes quiet for this long, Trump’s silence certainly tells us that something is afoot. Will he go back to his usual early-morning meltdown pattern on Sunday? We’ll see. But something is off here, and these quiet periods from Trump usually end up foreshadowing a pretty big shoe that he knows is about to drop.
