Michael Flynn was facing life in prison for charges ranging from conspiracy against the United States, to conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Then he cut a plea deal, and suddenly all those charges vanished. He was only given that kind of deal because he provided evidence against bigger fish in the Trump-Russia scandal. We still don’t have official confirmation who those bigger fish are. Now we’re learning that Jared Kushner sure thinks it’s him, as he has from the minute Flynn cut the deal.

On Friday the Washington Post revealed that Kushner’s attorney is in the process of hiring a crisis management public relations firm. The key detail just now surfacing: that process began two weeks before the WaPo article was published, which means December 1st (link). Flynn cut his deal on December 1st. So now we know that Kushner began panicking literally the day Flynn sold out.

So why does Kushner specifically fear Flynn? We don’t know that answer. We do know that Kushner and Flynn secretly met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak at Trump Tower during the transition period, and that shortly afterward, Kushner secretly met with the head of a Russian bank. We don’t know what went on in that second meeting. Beyond that, we largely don’t know what other overlapping Trump-Russia dalliances Kushner and Flynn might have had together.

We also know that just before Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s impending plea deal with Michael Flynn became public knowledge, he briefly interviewed Jared Kushner. Was Mueller trying to catch Kushner in a lie that he could then disprove via Flynn’s deal? Lying to a federal investigator would be a crime in and of itself. Perhaps Kushner considers himself innocent of any crimes, and he fears Flynn is going to characterize things differently. Who really knows what Kushner fears? All we know is that he’s been panicking since the day Flynn cut a deal. It’s also noteworthy that Kushner’s desire to find a crisis PR firm is just now leaking to the media, suggesting that whatever he fears, it’s about to hit the fan.
