Donald Trump has become so obsessed with the investigation into his Russia scandal that it’s all he can think or talk about, according to his own White House staff – and he’s become so enraged over the scandal that he’s taking it out on those staffers. His latest scapegoat is White House Counsel Don McGahn, whose head he’s been taking off in the Oval Office.

That’s the word according to a new report from Politico (link), which says that Donald Trump has been “lashing out” at McGahn and blaming him for the fact that the Russia investigation keeps growing more intense as the scandal gets worse. Trump seems unable or unwilling to figure out that the probe is growing largely due to his own inappropriate panic moves and self incriminating tweets. Worse, McGahn isn’t even supposed to be involved with it to begin with.

Anyone who has basic familiarity with the White House staff structure, or for that matter anyone who’s watched The West Wing, knows that the White House Counsel is not the President’s attorney. Instead the Counsel represents the legal interests of the White House. Donald Trump has hired his own personal attorneys to represent him in the Russia scandal, yet he still seems intent on taking out his frustrations on Don McGahn – which begs the question of how much longer McGahn will remain on the job.

This comes amid a similar report about Donald Trump’s “fits of rage” which have his staff concerned enough about his behavior to complain to the media about it (link). Trump appears to have become nothing short of consumed by the Russia scandal and investigation, and can’t focus on anything else. Will his obsession with the scandal take him down before the scandal itself has a chance to? If you’re a regular reader, feel free to support Palmer Report
