Donald Trump doesn’t seem to be enjoying himself very much as he continues to illegally occupy the office of President of the United States. That seems fitting, as most Americans aren’t enjoying his destructive tenure either. As things continue to get worse for Trump, he’s become more sullen, withdrawn, and bitter – raising the question of whether he might just walk away. One new incident suggests his exasperation is boiling over.

There’s a new Golf Magazine profile on Donald Trump that mostly deals with, well, golf. But while it’s not a political piece, it does offer some insight into what’s really going on inside his fractured mind. Trump has spent a ridiculous amount of time at his various golf resorts since taking office, trying to avoid the White House as much as he can. It turns out it’s not only the job that he hates.

While speaking privately with some members of his own golf club, Donald Trump told them “That White House is a real dump,” according to a quote about halfway through an article that was first published in Sports Illustrated and has since been made available on the Golf Magazine website (link). This points to Trump not only being exasperated with the constraints of the presidency, but also being agitated that he has to live in a mere government-owned mansion that he can’t remake in his own gaudy image. This all serves to help demonstrate just how miserable Trump is.

That thought may make members of the anti-Trump resistance feel good, because he deserves to be miserable after having plotted with the Russian government to rig the election in his own favor. But the bigger upshot here is that the more miserable Donald Trump is, the more likely he might be willing to walk away once his popularity craters to the point that even the Republicans in Congress decide they need to oust him in order to protect themselves. There’s a widespread “Trump is too (fill in the blank” to ever resign” mindset among the resistance, but that doesn’t line up with the facts: Trump is miserable and he wants out.
